What is the Institute?

It is a five-day residential (no commuting) training program run by Council 93 for members seeking to sharpen their leadership skills.

Who can attend?

Council 93 members in good standing for a year are eligible to apply. Approximately 20 participants will be selected. There is no fee.

What will I learn?

Presentations cover union building skills, including communications, conflict and negotiation skills.

Do I have to take my own time to attend?

No. The Council reimburses the regular weekly wage in your AFSCME-represented job.

Who teaches at the Institute?

A number of presenters participate including members, Council and International staff and consultants.

Where is it being held?

The Institute is being held in Storrs, Connecticut, on the University of Connecticut campus. Sleeping arrangements are dormitory-style with participants paired two to a room. The dorms are air conditioned.
