Beyond The Headlines:
The Romney Budget
|
What do you know about the Romney Budget Proposal?
Did you know that Romney’s budget. . .
Kicks thousands of workers out of their union?
Removes most union protections for all public employees fortunate enough to still have a union?
Removes seniority protections for public sector workers?
Eliminates Civil Service Protections for state and municipal workers?
Eliminates choices for state employee health insurance and forces state workers to pay hundreds more dollars per month for those limited choices?
Eliminates the Pacheco Law?
Does not fund the higher education collective bargaining agreements?
Will result in 2,000 - 3,000 state employee layoffs due to budget cuts?
In addition, did you know that Romney is planning to . . .
Eliminate the public employee pension system and replace it with a 401(k)?
Privatize three public colleges and consolidate three others?
Close the Fernald School and Worcester State Hospital in the next year, and the remaining DMR hospitals and some DMH facilities after that?
Heard enough? Ready to fight back?
Mitt Romney has declared war on public employees. If you value your job, your health insurance, your pension and your employment protections, fight back!!! None of these proposals are a done deal. We can fight back by talking with our legislators about the importance of public services and public sector workers. We can tell legislators that we support adequate revenue for public services!
In coalition with other public sector unions, AFSCME is organizing five legislative briefings throughout the state to talk to legislators about Romney’s ideas and how they’ll hurt public services, our members and their families. If we cannot get hundreds of union members to attend these briefings, we cannot protect our members from Romney’s corporate takeover of Massachusetts! To protect your job, your health insurance, your pension, and your employment protections, you must come and defend them to your elected representatives.
On the reverse you’ll find information about the dates and locations of the five regional briefings. Please attend the one closest to you. Be sure to be there.
Your future is in your hands!
